ITINERARY

HANOI - DONG HOI (-/-/-)

DAY 1 Eveving: pick up at hotel and transfer to Hanoi Railway Station. Board the night train S3 to Dong Hoi. Accommodation on the train (sharing 4-berth air-conditioned compartment without local tour guide accompanying).

 

DONG HOI - PHONG NHA - VINH MOC - DONG HOI (B/L/D)

DAY 2 Arrive at Dong Hoi Railways Station, meet your local tour guide and transfer to a local restaurant for breakfast. Drive up north to Phong Nha and take a boat trip from a critical point of the Ho Chi Minh trail and visit Phong Nha cave, known as being among the longest and most beautiful karst caves in the world. Return to Dong Hoi for lunch at a local restaurant, then proceed south to Vinh Linh and visit the Vinh Moc tunnels, dug to accommodate an underground village safe from American air raids in the north of the DMZ. Continue to visit the Hien Luong bridge crossing Ben Hai river, which used to be the former borderline between the north and south Vietnam and the site of the former Doc Mieu artilery base on the way to Dong Ha. Check-in,  dinner and accommodation at Sun Spa Resort (Garden view room)

 

DONG HOI - VINH MOC TUNNELS - DONG HA - KHE SANH - HUE  (B/L/-)

DAY 3 In the morning, drive to Vinh Linh and visit the Vinh Moc tunnels, dug to accommodate an underground village safe from American air raids in the north of the DMZ. Continue to visit the Hien Luong bridge crossing Ben Hai river, which used to be the former borderline between the north and south Vietnam and the site of the former Doc Mieu artilery base on the way to Dong Ha. Lunch at local restaurant. Drive to visit the other sites of the former firece battle fields on the DMZ including the former American bases as Rock Piles, Camp Carol and Khe Sanh; take a short walk on the Ho Chi Minh trail (the second trans-Vietnam traffic line) and visit a Van Kieu village. Continue to view the war-torn ruins of the Quang Tri church and the wreckage of an American tank. Proceed south to Hue and transfer to hotel of your choice (accommodation in Hue not included).

Our tour prices are inclusive of transfers and tours with English or French speaking guide (no guide on the train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi), accommodation in shared twin rooms at Sun Spa Resort with air-condition and private bath room, meals as specified in the program (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner), train ticket Hanoi - Dong Hoi in shared compartment with 4 soft berths, entrance fees, boat fees.

 

Not included are surcharges for other language guides, compulsory gala dinners during festive seasons and peak season surcharges, which will be advised at time of booking.

 

NOTES: The train trip is a local experience. Cabins are shared with other local passengers (unless private cabin is requested and all berths paid for). Communal rest rooms at either end of the carriages complete the local experience. Train schedule is subject to change without prior notice.

Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather, road conditions, flight schedules and room availability.
